How Do You Fix Epicondylitis?

Epicondylitis, commonly known as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) or golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis), can be fixed through the following approaches:

• Take a Break: Give your affected elbow time to heal by avoiding activities that aggravate the pain. For tennis elbow, this might mean taking a break from playing tennis or reducing the frequency and intensity of swings. For golfer's elbow, refrain from golfing or any repetitive gripping or wrist-flexing motions like excessive use of a screwdriver or hammer.
• Elbow Braces or Splints: An elbow brace is often used for epicondylitis, including tennis elbow. They are worn just below the elbow and help distribute the forces away from the inflamed tendon attachment. For a golfer's elbow, a tennis elbow splint that limits wrist flexion and extension can be helpful in reducing strain on the medial epicondyle. 
• Strengthening Exercises: As the pain lessens, start strengthening exercises. For example, use a light dumbbell or a stress ball to do wrist curls and reverse wrist curls for both types of epicondylitis. This helps strengthen the forearm muscles, which in turn support healing tendons and reduce the risk of recurrence. Physical therapists can also prescribe more specific exercises based on your individual condition.

Treating epicondylitis usually involves a combination of these methods, tailored to the individual's specific condition and problem severity.
