Elbow pain is a widespread musculoskeletal condition that can affect anyone, from athletes to people who perform repetitive everyday activities. It may result from overuse, acute injury, or underlying joint issues, and can make simple movements—such as lifting, gripping, or bending the arm—difficult and uncomfortable.
The elbow functions as a hinge joint made up of three bones: the humerus, radius, and ulna. These structures are supported by surrounding muscles, tendons, and ligaments that enable smooth, controlled motion. Although the elbow does not bear body weight, its frequent use and repetitive stress make it particularly susceptible to irritation, inflammation, and injury.
Common Symptoms of Elbow Pain
Symptoms of elbow pain can vary depending on the underlying cause. You may experience anything from a mild, persistent ache to sharp or burning pain. Discomfort can develop on either the inner or outer side of the elbow and often intensifies during activities such as lifting, gripping, or extending the arm.
