Can You Play Sports with ACL Injury?
You should stop exercising after an ACL injury. In the early stages of the injury, swelling and pain can occur, and exercising again may aggravate the injury, leading to increased bleeding and pain.
After treatment, rehabilitation exercises can be performed under the guidance of a medical professional. Start with some simple knee exercises, like knee flexion and extension, to help prevent joint adhesions and muscle atrophy. As recovery progresses, then gradually increase the intensity of exercise. During this time, a knee brace can also be worn to protect the knee joint, such as an ACL brace for sports. It reduces rotational and lateral instability of the knee and prevents ligaments from tearing or dislocating during knee movement.
