How to Strap Achilles Tendon
1. Preparation
An Achilles tendonitis strap with elasticity is needed. This strap will provide the right amount of pressure without impeding blood circulation.
2. Maintaining posture
The wearer should sit in a chair with the foot flat on the floor and the knee bent at about 90 degrees. This position helps to keep the Achilles tendon in a relatively relaxed state during bandaging and facilitates handling.
3. Starting the bandage
Starting at the bottom of the foot, place one end of the strap on the sole near the heel. Apply a little tension so that the strap can fit around the foot and prevent loosening. Then wrap the strap from the bottom of the foot up and around the back of the heel in a diagonal direction. The strap should be wrapped with a moderate amount of force that should provide some pressure to support the Achilles tendon, but not so tight that it interferes with blood circulation.
Continue to wrap the strap upwards in a spiral fashion, ensuring that it is evenly distributed and that the pressure is evenly distributed across the Achilles tendon and its surrounding tissues. It is important to keep the bandage flat to avoid creases or twists.
