Common Symptoms of Wrist/Thumb Pain

You may notice discomfort in the wrist, at the base of the thumb, or radiating into the hand and forearm. Pain often worsens with repetitive movements such as typing, gripping, or twisting the wrist.

Other common symptoms include stiffness, swelling, reduced range of motion, and weakness when grasping objects. Some conditions may also cause numbness, tingling, or a “pins and needles” sensation—especially when nerves are involved, such as in carpal tunnel syndrome.

In more severe cases, you may experience instability in the thumb, difficulty pinching or holding items, or pain that persists even at rest, which may indicate ligament injuries, tendon inflammation, or chronic joint conditions.
